UNAMI concerned over reports of violent incidents in Ashraf Camp

United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq Baghdad, 8 April 2011, The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) is concerned over reports of recent violent incidents in Ashraf camp resulting in deaths and injuries. UNAMI reiterates that efforts are needed to stop violence and aim at peacefully resolving all issues. UNAMI calls for restraint and respect for humanitarian and human rights and urges the Iraqi authorities to provide humanitarian assistance in this regard and access to medical services. UNAMI calls for continued consultations on Camp Ashraf

Top UN envoy concerned over conditions in Iraqi camp

UN News Centre 26 October 2009 – The top United Nations envoy to Iraq has expressed his concerns over the humanitarian situation in a camp north of Baghdad, housing thousands of Iranian dissidents. Some 3,400 members of the People’s Mojahedeen Organization of Iran (PMOI), also known as Mujahedin-e Khalq, live in Camp Ashraf in Iraq’s Diyala province. UN Special Rapporteur calls for restoration of water supply destroyed by bomb in Iraq

 United Nation Human Rights Council  The Special Rapporteur on the right to food to the Human Rights Council, Jean Ziegler, issued the following statement today: Geneva, 6 March 2008: -- I am deeply concerned about information I continue to receive concerning the deteriorating situation in Ashraf City/Camp Ashraf (Iraq) and its surrounding area, following an explosion on 8 February 2008 that destroyed the water pumps in Zorganieh, which supply the area. That pumping station provided drinking water and irrigation for Ashraf City and its surrounding area, covering more than 20,000 persons.
