Stop Fundamentalism – In the latest attack on Camp Ashraf residents by Iraqi forces today, Monday August 27, twenty residents were wounded, says a statement released by the Secretariat of National Council of Resistance of Iran.  Six of the injured were taken to Iraqi hospitals for treatment, while others were attended to in the camp.

Two previous attacks on Camp Ashraf by Iraqi forces back in July 2009 and April 2011, left 47 residents dead including 8 women.

Residents of Camp Ashraf are unarmed opponents of the Iranian regime who are members of the Iranian regime’s main opposition group, Mujahedin-e Khalq Organization, MEK.    The group took refuge in Iraq in Camp Ashraf from Iranian regime’s atrocities 26 years ago.  The group did not take sides during Iraq war and later 3400 residents of the camp were provided protected status under Fourth Geneva Conventions by American forces.

Since the last major attack on the camp in April 2011 which left 36 residents dead, the residents have agreed to a United Nations accord to move to a camp near Baghdad called Liberty.  About 2000 residents have already made the move although they compare the conditions at the camp to a prison rather than a temporary transit location.

The Iraqi Nouri Al-Maliki government has close ties to the Iranian regime.
