Iraqi government prevents transfer of 6 Camp Liberty patients to hospitals

Posted on August 7, 2014August 7, 2014 by USCCAR

NCRI – On Monday August 4, the Iraqi forces prevented the transfer of six Iranians in Camp Liberty to Baghdad hospitals to attend appointments which had long been arranged to receive medical treatment. Two of the patients were seeking treatment for cancer and one patient appointment was for undergoing surgery.

Despite the transfer of the patients being coordinated, the Iraqi forces affiliated to the Iraqi Prime Ministry told the residents on Sunday evening that patients were allowed to go to only one hospital and the number of accompanying persons and their interpreters had to be reduced to two. Thus, the residents were forced to eliminate two patients.

On the morning of August 4, the agents of the Iraqi Prime Ministry returned four remaining patients from the camp entrance on the pretext that one of the interpreters should be repalced.

In order to not lose time and get to their medical appointments, the patients decided to go to the hospital without an interpreter, but the agents of the Prime Ministry, once again, on the pretext that ID cards of two of the patients were not original, prevented their transfer to the hospital. In the end all patients lost their medical appointments.

Twenty residents of camps Ashraf and Liberty suffered from a slow death due to the inhumane medical siege over the past 6 years, whereas if the residents had free access to medical care, most of them would have been saved.

The Iranian resistance warns against the above inhuman acts, and given the US government and the UN onligations vis-à-vis the safety and security of Libery residents, demands urgent intervention of the US and the UN to provide free access to medical services to Liberty residents.
