Baghdad, 30 October 2015 – The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) strongly condemns the attack on Camp Hurriya (Camp Liberty) which occurred on the evening of 29 October, resulting in numerous deaths and injuries. The camp, in the vicinity of Baghdad International Airport, currently houses over 2100 Iranian exiles.
UNAMI urges the Government of Iraq to do its utmost to abide by its commitments in providing adequate security for the residents of the camp and to launch an independent investigation into the killings that would bring the perpetrators to justice.
UNAMI offers its condolences to the families of the deceased and wishes those injured a speedy recovery.
